Celebrating Black History Month

Goldman Sachs celebrated Black History Month 2012 during February by hosting a series of events that highlighted contributions of leaders in business, education, entertainment and social activism. The events featured panel discussions, networking receptions and film screenings.

This year’s month-long celebration culminated with an event featuring 2011 Nobel Peace Prize Winner Leymah Gbowee reflecting on events in her life—including the 14-year civil war in Liberia—which ultimately led her to become an advocate for peace, equality, education and women’s rights.

Opening remarks for the event were provided by Edie Hunt, chief diversity officer and advisory director of Goldman Sachs. The event was co-sponsored by the Goldman Sachs Women’s Network and the firm's 10,000 Women initiative, which is celebrating its fourth anniversary this year.
