Affinity Network Hosts Successful LGBT Events

One of the core ways the firm supports diversity and inclusion is through affinity networks, which offer training and educational programs, create networking forums, host leadership conferences, and sponsor client events.  Affinity networks are open to all people of the firm.

Of the firm’s many affinity networks, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Network of Europe, Middle East and Africa (LGBT Network EMEA) hosted a series of Pride Month events earlier this year, featuring discussions, networking and career development opportunities.

This summer, the LGBT Network EMEA held “LGBT City Quiz Night” in London, which attracted more than 200 people and provided professionals with an opportunity to network with people from over 60 different external organizations. Other events this year included “So, You Think Your Child Is Gay?”, a candid discussion on the role parents can play with helping children deal with discrimination and bullying, and the group’s annual “Success in the City” recruitment event, which helps promote Goldman Sachs as an inclusive and diverse employer of choice.

The network has been recognized by Stonewall, an LGBT equality charity, and was named their Employee Network of the Year for 2013.

As the LGBT Network EMEA gears up for 2014 with the support of senior leaders across the firm, it plans to continue its membership growth and expanding the impact of its events and programs.

The mission of the LGBT Network is to advocate a work environment that respects, welcomes and supports lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender professionals, and enables them to perform to their fullest potential and contribute to the greater goals of the firm.
