Highlights of the 2012 Summer Internship Program

Our 2012 class of summer interns finished up their work over the past few weeks and now they're returning to school.  The summer at Goldman Sachs offered them opportunities to work on many day-to-day projects with their teams, attend classes, talks and networking events, and to learn about the firm's commitment to teamwork and community.

Through a five-part speaker series featuring senior leaders — including CEO Lloyd Blankfein — interns heard perspectives on the financial services industry, career development, and the culture of the firm. One intern remarked that the series “really showed that [senior leaders] are thinking about the things that are important to us. The senior leadership at Goldman Sachs is just as interested in our growth and development as we are.”

In addition to the series of speakers, there were brown-bag lunches, video conferences and other events that allowed interns to network with peers and with senior people from across the firm.  Each division of the firm also had its own Learning Series of classes designed to provide an overview of areas of its business.

Interns were also able to connect with one another through participation in Community TeamWorks, the firm's initiative that provides employees with time out of the office for volunteering.  Each intern was given a day to participate, allowing collaboration with their peers while experiencing the firm’s culture of philanthropy firsthand.
