Then and Now: Nikhil

12 JUL 2018

During the summer of 2015, we profiled interns from around the world in a blog series called My Summer at Goldman Sachs where they chronicled their individual experiences at the firm. While our new intern class continues their summer experience, we wanted to check in with our former interns from three years ago to get some of their reflections and updates on what they are doing now.

Let’s catch up with Nikhil, an analyst in Engineering to see what he is up to now.

Internship: Summer Analyst in Transaction Reporting Technology (Web Application Development)

Current Role: Analyst in Global Position Reporting Technology

Path since the internship:

Looking back over the past three years, I feel an innate sense of fulfillment and growth. I have been privileged enough to work with some of the best people in our unit on a number of projects and one of the most important things that I witnessed was the presence of different thought processes in tackling a problem and the synergy that it leads to. I worked on an application during my internship which would validate transaction data and highlight the error along with the analysis regarding the error. I had to work with different teams while building the solution such as the UI/UX team to get the right usability feels for the application. I learnt that along with working hard you have to inculcate the ideas coming from the broader teams that you are working with to better your solution.

Now, I work on identifying narrow based indices - a class of financial instruments, which led me to interact and take guidance from people who are strong both functionally and technically. These colleagues display a skill level that has become somewhat of a milestone for me to reach. I can proudly say that I am working with some of the best people in the position reporting space.

Questions from 2018 Summer Analysts: What is your favorite memory while working at Goldman Sachs?

Nikhil: I worked on reporting for Markets In Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID II) Commodities Stream that involved collaborating with different individuals and leveraging each of my peer’s expertise in building a solution. It introduced me to the concept of team work in its literal sense, and I got to witness large projects coming alive by the collective effort of people.
