Ishan Associate, Goldman Sachs Asset Management Investment Management division, Bangalore
During my summer vacations, I pursued internships in various fields. Banking and finance interested me the most, so I knew that’s where I wanted to pursue my career. When Goldman Sachs came for campus recruitment, I had no second thoughts and I knew this is where I wanted to be.
Background
In college, I majored in economics, accounting, statistics, and econometrics. During my summer vacations, I pursued internships in various fields. Banking and finance interested me the most, so I knew those were the fields where I wanted to pursue my career. When Goldman Sachs came for campus recruitment, I had no second thoughts and I knew this is where I wanted to be.
In my job as a financial analyst at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, I have been able to bring my accounting knowledge to the table and I have incorporated my knowledge of statistics for analyses and presentations.
Getting Started at Goldman Sachs
To be honest, most of my memory hazily revolves around the excitement of joining Goldman Sachs. I had no fears and was looking forward to this new chapter in my life. I was keen to know which division I would be placed in.
Coming straight out of university, I found the idea of calling everybody by their first names, irrespective of how senior they were, quite unusual (though I am now a big proponent of this). Oddly enough, I also do remember getting my ID card picture taken, where I was told by the photographer not to smile!
Career Development
I have been through three levels of Analyst Academy, which includes development of soft skills such as presentation, speech, teamwork and networking. This has been extremely valuable, since my job requires all of those skills.
Teamwork
Teamwork is the most important aspect of my job. It fosters a healthy dynamic environment where each member is both personally contributing to and leveraging the strengths and experience of their teammates. Without being a successful team player, one cannot succeed in Goldman Sachs.
Impact
I take pride in knowing that we as an institution are market makers. We act as agents of growth, and knowing that I am part of this helps me sleep well at night.
