In college, I became interested in cybersecurity and testing. I wanted to work in a high-security environment with high-profile clients. As a premiere financial firm that needs to keep its data safe while following many financial regulations, Goldman Sachs offered the exact challenge I was looking for.

I first connected with the firm at the Grace Hopper Conference for Women in Computing. I met a recruiter at the event which eventually led to an interview for an analyst position in the Salt Lake City office.

I spent my first few weeks training in the New York office with other new analysts from around the world. To this day we stay in touch, even though we work on different teams and in different places. I’m grateful to have a unique network I can reach out to at any time.

One of the great things about Goldman is the training offered. I make it a point to attend technical trainings and talks given by technology experts from other divisions and sometimes even from outside the firm. This helps me stay up to speed on the latest trends in the fast-paced world of technology. I especially enjoy the firm’s Technology Birds of a Feather event. It’s a multi-day event where technologists from all regions come together and share interesting solutions, products and engineering principles. It helps me stay connected to the broader Engineering organization and learn more about some really interesting engineering projects throughout the firm.

I’m part of the firm’s Women in Technology affinity network, and I’m also involved in the external Society for Women Engineers (SWE). Both groups host events that help encourage girls to get excited about a career in STEM. I particularly enjoy SWE’s Girl Scout Nights, where we bring in a group of junior high girls and do cool engineering projects and talk about how rewarding it is to work in technology.

My advice for new or future employees: Be open to helping other people. Take the time to connect with your colleagues. Push yourself to learn more. Go to the trainings and talks that are offered and be curious. These are all things that have served me well.

Outside of work, I’m all about the outdoors. I’m a dog lover, and I like kayaking, camping, backpacking, and hiking in the mountains. When you work in Salt Lake City, you have all these things at your doorstep.
