The Goldman Sachs 'Student Challenge' - Terms and Conditions
By participating in the Goldman Sachs 'Student Challenge' (the "Competition") you will be deemed to have accepted the following terms and conditions.
1.1. The Competition is being run and administered by Goldman Sachs International, Peterborough Court, 133 Fleet Street, London EC4A 2BB ("Goldman Sachs").
1.2. The Competition is open to students who meet all of the following criteria:
(a) are full time undergraduate students who, at the date of entering the Competition, are due to be studying at a university in England in the 2015/16 academic year either on a UCAS recognised course (as set out at http://search.ucas.com);
(b) are due to graduate (whether at a university in England or elsewhere) at the end of the 2016 – 2017 academic year;
(c) are available to attend the Competition Final between 26 – 30 January 2015 and to participate in the Goldman Sachs Internship in April 2015; and
(d) are not an employee of Goldman Sachs, any of its subsidiaries or any company involved in Goldman Sachs' '10,000 Small Businesses UK' investment (each a "SBC") or an immediate family member of any such employee.
1.3. The Competition opens at midday on 22 September 2014 and closes at midnight on 30 November 2014 (the "Competition Period"). Entries received outside of the Competition Period will not be eligible to participate in the Competition.
2. ENTRY TO THE COMPETITION
2.1. To enter the Competition, visit www.goldmansachs.com/careers/studentchallenge (the "Website"), complete the application form and submit a response ("Response") to a question in one of the three categories (each a "Category") relating to a SBC.
2.2. Responses must be either 1.) written: no longer than one typed page of A4, using at least size 10 Times New Roman font and standard Microsoft Word formatting. Written Responses must not contain any hyperlinks; or 2.) a video clip: no longer than one minute in duration. Video Responses must not contain more than one presenter.
3. THE FINALISTS
3.1. At the end of the Competition Period the Goldman Sachs graduate recruitment team will review all Responses and submit a shortlist to the Panel (as defined below) in respect of each Category. Decisions will be based on which entrants (in the opinion of the graduate recruitment team) best demonstrate the following criteria ("Criteria"):
- Analytical skills
- Strategic thinking
- Practical Implementation & Commercial Viability
3.2. Each Category shortlist will then be reviewed by a panel consisting of at least 2 Goldman Sachs representatives and the CEO from the Category SBC (each a "Panel"). Each Panel will select 3 entrants (each a "Category Finalist") based on the Panel's assessment of which entrants have best satisfied the Criteria. The Category Finalists in each Category will be invited to attend the Competition final (the "Final") in London between26 – 30 January 2015.
3.3. Each Category Finalist will be contacted no later than Friday 23 January 2015 using the contact details they provided when entering the Competition. In the event that:
(a) a Category Finalist cannot be contacted within 72 hours or is unable to attend the Final, the relevant Panel will select a replacement Category Finalist;
(b) a Category Finalist subsequently becomes unable to attend the Final (and unless otherwise agreed by Goldman Sachs), the relevant Panel may select a replacement Category Finalist; and
(c) a Category Finalist fails to attend the Final without having notified Goldman Sachs in advance, that Category Finalist will not be eligible to receive a Prize but no replacement will be selected.
3.4. Goldman Sachs will reimburse each Category Finalist for their reasonable expenses incurred in travelling to the Final up to the value of £150 (excluding accommodation costs which will remain the responsibility of each Category Finalist). Expenses will be reimbursed providing proof of his/her expenses to the reasonable satisfaction of Goldman Sachs (excluding taxi fees).
4. THE FINAL AND THE WINNER
4.1. At the Final each Category Finalist will be required to present their Response in person to a panel consisting of at least one Goldman Sachs representative and the CEO from the relevant Category SBC (each a "Final Panel"). Goldman Sachs will contact each Category Finalist prior to the Final to provide further information in respect of their presentation, including in relation to the required duration and format.
4.2. The Category Finalist in each Category who, in the opinion of the relevant Final Panel, best satisfies the Criteria, will be the Category winner.
4.3. In addition, all Final Panels will collectively select one Category winner as the overall Competition winner (the "Competition Winner"). The decision will be based on which Category winner best satisfies the Criteria.
4.4. Each Category winner and the Competition Winner will be announced at the Final.
5. THE PRIZES
5.1. Each Category Winner will receive an offer to join the Goldman Sachs 2015 Spring Programme in London ("Internship").
5.2. The Competition Winner will also be entitled to have their university tuition fees for the academic year 2015/16 ( "Fees") paid by Goldman Sachs, up to the value of £9,000.
6. CONDITIONS RELATING TO ENTRY
6.1. No purchase is required to participate in the Competition. Save as set out at Paragraph 3.4, no refund may be claimed for expenses incurred in participating in the Competition.
6.2. Each entrant may only enter the Competition once during the Competition Period. Any entrant who submits multiple Responses (whether for the same or for different categories) will be disqualified.
6.3. Goldman Sachs reserves the right, at any time, to verify the eligibility of any entrant and to exclude anyone who it believes to have acted in breach of these terms and conditions.
6.4. Goldman Sachs will not be responsible for any attempt to participate in the Competition which is unsuccessful or incomplete for any reason, including as a consequence of communication or network failures.
6.5. By submitting a Response, each entrant:
(a) consents to their name and image appearing on the Goldman Sachs' website and in promotional materials in respect of the Competition;
(b) warrants that their Response is their original work and that they have not spoken to any employee of Goldman Sachs or any of the companies that are featured in the Competition regarding the content of their Response;
(c) warrants that they are the sole owner of all rights in their Response; and
(d) absolutely assigns with full title guarantee, all rights, title and interest in and to their Response (including all ideas and concepts contained therein) to Goldman Sachs for Goldman Sachs or any of the companies featured in the Competition. For the avoidance of doubt, the entrant shall not be entitled to use or reproduce, or allow any third party to view, use or reproduce, the Response (in full or in part in any format) without the permission of Goldman Sachs.
7. COMPETITION PRIZES
7.1. The Prizes will only be awarded to the Category Winners and the Competition Winner (as applicable).
7.2. None of the Prizes may be transferred, substituted or exchanged and there is no cash alternative, however where the place on the Goldman Sachs' Spring Internship Programme is not available for a reason beyond Goldman Sachs' control, Goldman Sachs may select a replacement prize of similar or greater value.
Spring Internship Programme
7.3. The precise dates and location of the Internship will be notified to the Winners in due course.
7.4. The Winners will be required to:
(a) successfully complete Goldman Sachs' background security checks, which are applicable to all interns; and
(b) subject to passing the above checks, enter into Goldman Sachs' standard Internship agreement regarding (among other things) their conduct and use of confidential information.
7.5. Goldman Sachs will endeavor to arrange all necessary visas and other employment documentation required in order for the Winners to undertake the Internship. In the event that Goldman Sachs is unable to secure any such visas or documentation, the Winners will not be able to participate in the Internship and no replacement prize will be offered.
7.6. Goldman Sachs' will reimburse all reasonable travel and accommodation costs for the duration of the Internship where the Winners are based outside of the M25 provided reasonable evidence of the same is provided to Goldman Sachs. All such costs will be reimbursed within 30 days of the end of the Internship.
Payment of Fees
7.7. The Fees will be paid directly to the Competition Winner's university upon the Competition Winner providing evidence, to the reasonable satisfaction of Goldman Sachs, of the same being due. Under no circumstances will payment of the Fees be made directly to the Competition Winner. In the event that the Competition Winner has already paid their Fees by the date of the Final no such amount will be paid to either the Competition Winner or the Competition Winner's university and Paragraph 7.2 shall apply.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law Goldman Sachs excludes liability for any losses, damages and claims incurred by any person in connection with the Competition.
9.1. All decisions made by Goldman Sachs, each Panel and each Final Panel (as applicable) in respect of the Competition shall be final and no correspondence will be entered into in respect of the same.
9.2. Goldman Sachs reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions or cancel the Competition at any time if circumstances beyond its control make this unavoidable.
9.3. Each participant will be required to provide personal information (including his/her name, email and postal address) when submitting an application and Response. Any personal data submitted to Goldman Sachs in connection with the Competition will be used to administer the Competition. In doing so, the personal data of each participant may be shared with Goldman Sachs' subsidiaries, entities hosting or processing such data for Goldman Sachs, and/or with Goldman Sachs' service providers, contractors and subcontractors.
9.5. This Competition, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with it, shall be governed by and construed in accordance with English law. Each participant irrevocably agrees that the courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any dispute or claim that arises out of or in connection with this Competition.
