Aditi Executive Director/Vice President, Procurement and Contract Management Services Division, London
The journey so far has been fun and challenging at the same time.
I work in Corporate Services and Real Estate in Jersey City and am part of the Procurement and Commercial Management team. In my role, I help to procure services, establish contracts and manage vendor commercial relationships for different business groups within the firm. My work is team based and requires that I partner with global counterparts and business managers across real estate, business services and Human Capital Management. My role requires me to manage projects, engage vendors and balance multiple stakeholder expectations while ensuring compliance with the firm’s policies to help proactively identify and mitigate risks.
Project management is an integral part of the Procurement role. Since I am always juggling multiple projects and deadlines, each day is different from the last! Typically I will spend my time project planning and working with project teams to ensure tasks are being completed as per schedule. As the procurement lead on projects, my role includes developing the sourcing strategy for the project, creating the competitive bid package, drafting the contract, negotiating deals with vendors and working to ensure we get the best commercial deal while mitigating any risks.
The procurement role however goes beyond just negotiating a good deal – I am also involved in ongoing management of vendors, and support the business teams in managing the long term strategy and relationships with their vendors.
I began my career at the Goldman Sachs office in Bengaluru, India. I joined the firm out of college and spent the first few years with the Bengaluru team learning about the business, supporting the procurement team globally and expanding my knowledge base. Three years into my career, I was given the opportunity to relocate to the Jersey City office, so I decided to make the change and join the America team.
The journey so far has been fun and challenging at the same time. Relocating to another office has been a great learning experience and I have had the good fortune of working with incredibly smart people who have continued to motivate and support me through it all.
I always knew that I wanted to work in an organization with a strong corporate culture, that had a global footprint and that welcomed and nurtured talent. I found all this and much more at Goldman Sachs. A career in financial services is challenging and demanding, with lots of long hours, high expectations and hard work – but know that it will all pay off in the end! You learn with every experience and grow quickly, and if you remain enthusiastic and proactive, a career in finance will prove to be very rewarding.
