I have always had an interest in business organization, management and strategy. In college, my major was Managerial Economics and I was the teaching assistant for a business operations course. It has been helpful having a general finance and operations background in my current role.
Our firm’s extensive interview process provided me an opportunity to learn more about Human Capital Management (HCM) division and the people I work with. It’s been exciting to broaden my background by working with people in nine countries.
I was initially anxious. However, my first few days at the firm were extremely positive. I was surprised by the many people who went out of their way to help me settle in and feel comfortable in my new role. As HCM Generalists, we are often the "go-to" people for everyday HCM-related questions. We do not always have the answers to everything that is directed our way. We come across situations that are inherently unique and we need to be thoughtful and collaborative in our approach to ensure we reach a suitable outcome that works for all parties.
Goldman Sachs is a leader within the industry and views its people as important assets. Since I am interested in human resources, it has been an exciting and dynamic place to work.
Goldman Sachs University hosts a variety of training sessions that provide continued education for one's career progression and skills. I have taken self-leader and presentation trainings and I see my career path moving towards leadership positions within my division.
I am fortunate to have a great network of experts and specialists within the division to go to for guidance. We often work through issues together, determine the best solutions for our clients and present the solution as a unified group.
I have attended some of the Asia Affinity Network events as a guest, and really found them worthwhile. My role involves working with some of the divisional networks in my client group, such as the Operations Asia Diversity Committee, and within HCM I am a member of the Asia Pacific Junior Board.
One thing that has surprised me at Goldman Sachs is the internal mobility opportunities that it makes available to its people. It is good to know that opportunities in different regions, divisions or roles are available.
For me, working with individuals from so many different countries has increased my cultural awareness and has allowed me to see things from different perspectives.
Given the teamwork ethic at Goldman Sachs, we are all contributing to the output of the firm. I am proud to know that the work we do has a significant impact. We participate in financing projects that lead to job creation, support underserved women around the world and partner with non-profit organizations to create volunteer opportunities for our people.
