Fernanda Associate, Private Wealth Management Investment Management Division, London
The chance to work in a very well-known financial institution, with very talented people and a lot of opportunities inspired me to start the application process.
I received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado in Brazil. Since I was very young I’ve been devoted to mathematics. That has given me a great support and I can say that is what I use most from my background.
Starting Out at Goldman Sachs
I started my career at Goldman Sachs in Brazil. The chance to work in a very well-known financial institution, with very talented people and a lot of opportunities inspired me to start the application process. I joined as an intern in Emerging Markets Locals Sales and I’m still part of the same team. What I like most about this group is its dynamic and challenging environment and the relationships I was able to build internally and externally at the firm. Also, being recognized by your achievements and contributions is very motivating.
On my first day at Goldman Sachs I remember how confident I was that I was exactly in the place I wanted to be. As everything was new, I wanted to learn and be part of it as fast as I could. I also remember the warm reception I had from my colleagues when I was introduced to the team, which helped contain my anxiety.
After my internship, when I joined Goldman Sachs as an Analyst, I had the opportunity to be part of the 2009 Analyst Training Program in New York, which gave me a better overview of our firm’s divisions and products. In addition, the relationships I developed with other analysts was something really meaningful and that I will keep with me for a long time.
Teamwork represents a lot to me on a daily basis, since it is the best way to achieve our goals. It was one of the aspects that impressed me the most in Goldman Sachs’ culture, given that this is such an important part of our work and that it inspires every member of the firm.
I’m a member of the Brazil Women's Network. It’s provided me a lot of opportunities to meet great people, learn about their experiences and careers at the firm and improve the work environment for women. I was also able to participate in some engaging events supported by this group.
