Hugo Associate, Trade Support Operations division, Sao Paulo

I believe that Goldman Sachs is very good in providing its employees with different career paths, allowing each of us to develop different facets of our professional lives.

Background

While I was working on my Bachelor of Business Administration Degree, I found myself interested in finance and capital markets. That’s when I decided to work in this industry. I’ve been doing this for over seven years now, in different global institutions, and I’m convinced that this is what I want to do for a long time.

Career Development

I joined Goldman Sachs in December 2009 to work on creating Brazil’s client onboarding/due diligence area for the bank and the broker dealer. It was extremely challenging, but it was also one of the most satisfying experiences I had in my career.

In December 2011, I moved to middle office team and in January of 2012, I was promoted to associate.

Reward

My proudest achievement at the firm so far was building the Client Onboarding/ Client Due Diligence area in Goldman Sachs Brazil and helping to make it a benchmark for all the other growth market offices.

In the two years I worked in this project, the team grew from two to eight people, serving over ten thousand clients globally.

Advice

To get the most out of your interviews, be sure to research our firm’s history, culture and values. You’ll be meeting with many different people, some of them very senior. Coming in well informed will help demonstrate that you can be an asset to the firm.

As you interview, it is important to be very patient because the process is long and will demand a lot of your time.

Balance

In my opinion, it is up to each person to look for ways to reach a balance between their professional and personal lives. I do this by taking advantage of the tools we have at Goldman Sachs, such as the flexibility to take days off and to work from home when necessary.
