Background

I co-majored in Finance and Statistics at the NYU Stern School of Business undergraduate program. However my business fraternity, Beta Alpha Psi, has helped me the most. It has equipped me with interviewing and networking skills as well as the right mindset and attitude to graduate from college and enter the work force as a young business professional.

I always wanted to be in a sales role, since I like interacting with people. I was lucky enough to have had previous internships in equities, and knowing that I am actually interested in my team’s products makes coming to work every day exciting and challenging.

Starting Out at Goldman Sachs

My first day on the desk went by too quickly! It was a blur of anxiety and excitement. I was a summer intern on the same team a year ago and it was fantastic coming back and seeing familiar faces again—it felt as if I’d never left. I did fear that I would not meet expectations given the high caliber of the people I work with. However, everyone was more than happy to help me get up to speed and more. The challenge is there but I don’t feel entirely on my own.

Career Development

The training program for first years in New York was incredibly valuable. Our class was able to meet with senior leaders such as Lloyd Blankfein and Gary Cohn and learn more about the industry from stories and their experiences. It was also great to meet peers from offices from around the world. The relationships that I’ve built with peers as well as with veterans of the office are what I value most.

Teamwork

Goldman Sachs is one of the places where I’ve seen real teamwork in action. For a tight-knit team like ours, it means acting as a good backup for one another when we’re tied up with a client, finding information of value for colleagues in specific stocks and basically gladly doing something for someone else, whether in the same team or different division, without being asked to, and treating the work as if it is for yourself or your own client. It’s about helping out anyone at all in the firm who needs it, and offering assistance when you know there is something you can do to make their lives easier.

Goals

My ultimate career goal is to reach the peak of my career before I retire…wherever that would be. Goldman Sachs is a firm I’d love to stay with and continue my growth in the long term, but there is really no telling where I will be in a few years’ or a few decades’ time! A few years ago, I wouldn’t even have dreamt of working here.
