CNBC Coverage on Macroeconomic Landscape from Global Macro Conference in London
More than 600 clients of the Securities Division attended the Global Macro Conference on June 2 in London, to hear from global leaders sharing perspectives on the macroeconomic landscape.
Richard Gnodde, co-CEO of Goldman Sachs International, hosted a discussion with the Rt Hon George Osborne MP, UK Chancellor of the Exchequer. Chancellor Osborne discussed the Government’s economic strategy, the UK as a place to do business and the UK’s position in Europe.
Attendees gained insight into macro perspectives from a panel discussion with Andrew Law, chairman and CEO, Caxton Associates; Lance West, senior managing director and CEO, Centerbridge Partners; and Mike Novogratz, principal and director, Fortress Investment Group. Moderated by Michael Daffey, global co-COO of the Equities Franchise, the discussion focused on EU Banks and current catalysts and trends in the broader global markets.
In an interview with chief markets economist Dominic Wilson, Lord Meryn King, former governor of the Bank of England and chairman of its Monetary Policy Committee, shared insights into post-crisis central banking and his perspectives on global monetary policy.
Martin Wolf, chief economics commentator at the Financial Times, examined the dichotomy of a global recovery and secular stagnation in a discussion with Goldman Sachs’ chief economist Jan Hatzius and chief European economist Huw Pill.
Arif Naqvi, founder and CEO of the Abraaj Group, highlighted the opportunities in growth markets.
