Impact Investing

Through our innovative “impact investing” strategy, Goldman Sachs is committed to deploying private capital – through investments and loans – to address critical public needs, and to help transform disadvantaged communities into neighborhoods of opportunity. “Impact investments” provide a new asset class for investors who seek investments that offer returns while addressing critical social challenges.

Goldman Sachs is a pioneer in the creation of  the “social impact bond” -- an innovative and emerging financial instrument that leverages private investment to support high-impact social programs.  In these transactions, investor return is directly linked to the achievement of measurable social impact.

Goldman Sachs recently launched the GS Social Impact Fund, which will leverage the firm’s expertise, experience and resources to deploy capital toward the physical, social and economic revitalization of disadvantaged communities across the United States.  It will offer an investment strategy that addresses social challenges, seeks to provide a financial return, and has the potential to mobilize new sources of private capital into the social impact investing field.
