Asia Breast Cancer Initiative

Boosting Health Education and Awareness

Breast cancer is the leading cause of death for women in China and incidence rates across the rest of Asia have been steadily rising. There are 1.1 million new cases of breast cancer annually and fatality rates have doubled over the past three decades in China, where diagnoses occur much later than in Western countries. With funding from Goldman Sachs Gives, the Asia Breast Cancer Initiative in China provides international expertise and supports efforts to address an acute health crisis that is challenging the world’s largest and fastest-growing region. Through this unique partnership with the All-China Women’s Federation, the Ministry of Health and the Harvard School of Public Health, we are building evidence-based models for breast cancer awareness and developing the first standardized series of disease education curricula in China that can be scaled nationwide.
