Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts
Rebuilding a Community Devastated by Sandy
When Hurricane Sandy demolished the New Jersey coast, we responded. Leveraging the firm’s strong volunteer culture and longstanding partnerships with key community organizations, we deployed more than 1,200 Goldman Sachs people, along with friends and family, to remove debris, distribute donated items, assemble care packages and assist in other cleanup efforts in hard-hit areas. We also co-sponsored and participated in a pro bono legal clinic for Sandy victims.
Additionally, Goldman Sachs Gives provided an $800,000 donation to New Jersey Community Capital to launch REBUILD New Jersey, an emergency relief loan fund to aid recovery for small businesses in areas most severely damaged by the storm. Local businesses continue to receive loans of $10,000 to $30,000 each to cover critical operational costs, including building repairs, equipment and inventory purchases, rent, salaries and utility bills. A financial lifeline to local entrepreneurs, REBUILD is helping speed recovery for recipients and the communities they serve.
