Advice from Yael Levy, Compliance Division

27 FEB 2017

Yael Levy, head of Compliance for the Merchant Banking Division, shares five pieces of advice that she would give her younger self:

1) The learning curve is endless. You may think you know a lot, but there will always be so much more to learn. Stay humble, be inquisitive and challenge yourself – every day.

2) Have a plan. You are the only person who can decide what’s best for you, where you want to be and how to get there. Write it down, and hold yourself accountable by sharing your plan with others, including your manager, sponsor(s) and mentor(s), and significant others.

3) Make choices. Work/life balance is not perfect, it can’t be. Follow your instincts, be flexible and have confidence in the choices you make. It’s never too late to make adjustments, so regularly reflect on and assess your decisions.

4) Life is a puzzle. You can’t determine the number of pieces you’ll have to juggle ahead of time, but trust that it will all come together. I’ve found that the pieces that are the most difficult to find or place actually tend to be the most rewarding.

5) There is no GPS for your career. The road to achieve your goals may be bumpy, and you may stumble upon unexpected detours, but you will get there so long as you believe in yourself and keep pursuing your goals. At the end of the day, your journey, however long it takes, is what matters most.
