Refurnish is a social enterprise that delivers a borough-wide collection service for unwanted furniture. These goods are diverted from landfill, restored to near perfect condition and are then offered for retail at a reasonable cost to people including the most vulnerable members of the community. The company also remanufactures damaged furniture from national retailers and retails them alongside new furniture. Refurnish provides accredited and non-accredited training and work placements to the employees who restore and remanufacture the furniture—paid for by private and public sector organizations.
Before beginning the 10,000 Small Businesses program, Andy identified the slow business environment, as well as the need for technical investment in the business and the creation of a long-term growth strategy as his primary business challenges
Since taking part in the program, Refurnish achieved a million pound turnover a year earlier than expected. They have also opened a second store in a different area. They have negotiated more financing which has enabled them to employ new staff members, and purchase more vehicles to build on their growth.
