On June 14th, Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women collaborated on The White House Summit on the United State of Women in Washington, DC. The event celebrated the progress achieved to date to empower women and girls around the world, and identified solutions to the challenges they still face.
The summit brought together a diverse group of business leaders, academics, activists, nonprofit leaders, elected officials and others to focus on six key areas that impact women and girls: educational opportunity, health and wellness, economic prosperity, violence against women, civic engagement, leadership and visibility, and entrepreneurship and innovation.
Dina Habib Powell, head of Goldman Sachs’ Impact Investing business and President of the Goldman Sachs Foundation, moderated a conversation on women’s entrepreneurship and economic empowerment in the US and around the world with Warren Buffett, chairman and chief executive officer of Berkshire Hathaway; Ayo Megbope, a graduate of the 10,000 Women program from Lagos, Nigeria; and Carla Walker-Miller, a 10,000 Small Businesses graduate from Detroit, Michigan. Valerie Jarrett, senior advisor to the president and chair of the White House Council on Women and Girls, introduced the panel.
