Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corporation (NTT)
In 1999 Goldman Sachs continued to play a central role in one of the largest
privatizations ever, assisting the Ministry of Finance of Japan to reduce its ownership
position in NTT. In the most recent series of privatization offerings, we acted as Joint
Global Coordinator for the fifth sale of approximately $15 billion of NTT common
stock. The offering was the first after NTTs reorganization, and we worked with them
on communicating their business goals and prospects to investors in Japan and around the
globe. Significant interest was generated worldwide, with the transaction being heavily
oversubscribed. The offering was received extremely well in the marketplace and was
reputed globally for its high success.
