Gary Cohn is President and Chief Operating Officer of The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. He serves as a member of the Goldman Sachs Management Committee and Board of Directors. He is also the Co-Chairman of the Client and Business Standards Committee.
Over the course of his 22-year career at Goldman Sachs, he has held a variety of leadership positions in the firm’s Securities Division both in New York and in London. Prior to his current role, he served as the Co-Chief Operating Officer of Fixed Income, Currency and Commodities (FICC) after having been responsible for Commodities and a number of other FICC business from 1996 through 2002, and was the Co-Head of the Global Securities Businesses from December 2003 – June 2006. Mr. Cohn joined Goldman Sachs in 1990 and became a Partner in 1994. Prior to Goldman Sachs, he was a director of the London Metals Exchange and a member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the New York Mercantile Exchange and the Commodity Exchange.
Mr. Cohn is involved in a variety of nonprofit activities primarily focused on education and healthcare. He serves as trustee of the NYU Langone Medical Center, the Harlem Children’s Zone in New York City and American University in Washington, DC. He also serves as Chairman of the Advisory Board of the NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York City.
