Brian Lee to Become an Advisory Director
Brian Lee, chairman of the Risk Division, has retired from the partnership and will become an advisory director. We look forward to continuing to benefit from Brian’s deep knowledge of the firm and risk management expertise in his new capacity.
Brian’s career at Goldman Sachs has spanned more than three decades. He joined Goldman Sachs in 1994, and went on to assume several management roles within Controllers, including as deputy controller, before becoming controller and chief accounting officer in 2017 – roles he held until 2019. Brian was named the firm’s chief risk officer and became a member of the Management Committee from 2019 to 2024. He decided to step down from this position at the beginning of last year, at which time he became chairman of the Risk Division.
Throughout his tenure, Brian has been deeply committed to protecting and enhancing the firm’s client franchise through effective risk management and robust control frameworks. He has also consistently encouraged our teams to uphold the highest standards of excellence and operate with integrity in everything we do, reminding our people that working hard to serve our clients and shareholders goes hand in hand with prudent risk management.
Most recently, Brian has dedicated his time to advancing several specific enterprise risk initiatives and strengthening our practices and processes, particularly as Goldman Sachs and our businesses have grown significantly – partnering with senior leaders across the firm in this capacity. He has also served as a member of the Firmwide Risk Appetite, Asset Liability, Enterprise Risk, Allowance for Loan and Lease Losses, and Data Governance Committees.
Brian has been a strong advocate for our culture, both through his emphasis on working collectively, thinking broadly, and taking a long-term view when it comes to commercial success and managing risk, as well as through his dedication to serving as a mentor to many of our people around the world.
Please join us in thanking Brian for his outstanding contributions to Goldman Sachs and his continued service to the firm as an advisory director.
