Brian Lee to Become an Advisory Director
Brian Lee, chairman of the Risk Division, has retired from the partnership and will become an advisory director. We look forward to continuing to benefit from Brian’s deep knowledge of the firm and risk management expertise in his new capacity.
Brian’s career at Goldman Sachs has spanned more than three decades. He joined Goldman Sachs in 1994, and went on to assume several management roles within Controllers, including as deputy controller, before becoming controller and chief accounting officer in 2017 – roles he held until 2019. Brian was named the firm’s chief risk officer and became a member of the Management Committee from 2019 to 2024. He decided to step down from this position at the beginning of last year, at which time he became chairman of the Risk Division.
Throughout his tenure, Brian has been deeply committed to protecting and enhancing the firm’s client franchise through effective risk management and robust control frameworks. He has also consistently encouraged our teams to uphold the highest standards of excellence and operate with integrity in everything we do, reminding our people that working hard to serve our clients and shareholders goes hand in hand with prudent risk management.
Most recently, Brian has dedicated his time to advancing several specific enterprise risk initiatives and strengthening our practices and processes, particularly as Goldman Sachs and our businesses have grown significantly – partnering with senior leaders across the firm in this capacity. He has also served as a member of the Firmwide Risk Appetite, Asset Liability, Enterprise Risk, Allowance for Loan and Lease Losses, and Data Governance Committees.
Brian has been a strong advocate for our culture, both through his emphasis on working collectively, thinking broadly, and taking a long-term view when it comes to commercial success and managing risk, as well as through his dedication to serving as a mentor to many of our people around the world.

Brian Cayne Joins Goldman Sachs in Investment Banking as a Partner in TMT
We are pleased to announce that Brian Cayne has joined Goldman Sachs as a partner in the Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) Group and co-head of Software Investment Banking, alongside Jason Rowe and Joe Porter. They will work with Jung Min, Barry O’Brien, and our entire global TMT team as we continue to serve our software clients’ ambitions and objectives and grow our leading franchise during a period of significant transformation for the sector. Goldman Sachs has been the premier global software M&A franchise over the past decade ranking #1 in aggregate global technology M&A volume.
Brian brings nearly 20 years of investment banking experience and a deep knowledge of the tech and software space to the firm. He has advised both established and emerging technology companies as they pursued their strategic objectives, including while navigating major cross-sector trends and structural changes impacting the technology industry around the world.
Most recently, Brian worked at Qatalyst Partners, where he was a co-founder in 2008 and served as a partner. He led a number of important client relationships and advised on many transformative transactions during his 15 years at the company. Before that, Brian worked at Vista Equity Partners in software investing, as well as at Credit Suisse in the Technology Group, Mergers & Acquisitions.
Brian earned a BA in Economics from Princeton University.

Hans Swildens, Justin Burden, and Roland Reynolds Join Goldman Sachs as Partners in AWM
We are pleased to announce that Hans Swildens, Justin Burden, and Roland Reynolds have joined Goldman Sachs as partners in AWM. As we welcome Industry Ventures colleagues to the firm, and integrate the business following the closing of the acquisition, Hans, Justin, and Roland will continue to focus on managing key parts of the business – including investment processes, operations, and limited partner relationships.
About Hans, Justin, and Roland
Hans founded Industry Ventures, and served as its CEO, managing the overall business. He brings decades of experience to the firm as an early pioneer of the modern secondary market for venture capital and early supporter of the development of a new class of venture capital partnerships focused on seed and early stage investing during the last decade.
Earlier in his career, Hans co-founded and acted as president of Microline Software. He also helped start Speedera Networks (acquired by Akamai) and provided board advisory services to Discovery Mining (acquired by Interwoven), nCircle Network Security (acquired by Tripwire), and StepUp Commerce (acquired by Intuit).
Hans earned an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BA with distinction from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
Justin served as senior managing director at Industry Ventures. In this capacity, he has focused on originating, valuing, and managing secondary investment opportunities in later-stage, venture-backed companies and venture capital funds. He has also been actively involved in fundraising and maintaining limited partner relationships. Justin joined Industry Ventures in 2004.
Previously, Justin worked at GE Equity in San Francisco, the venture capital arm of the General Electric Company, where he sourced, structured, and managed investments in the technology, consumer, media, and telecom sectors. Prior to GE Equity, Justin worked at Wells Fargo’s high yield fund purchasing debt securities in buyout transactions.
Justin earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley and an MSc from the London School of Economics.
Roland served as senior managing director at Industry Ventures. In this role, he has focused on originating, valuing, and managing primary fund commitments, early secondary limited partnership investments, and direct company investments for the Industry Ventures Direct and Partnership Holdings team. He has also been actively involved in fundraising and maintaining limited partner relationships. Roland joined Industry Ventures in 2009.
Previously, Roland was founder of Little Hawk Capital Management LLC, which was acquired by Industry Ventures. He also spent five years as a Principal with Columbia Capital, a leading communications and information technology venture capital firm. Earlier in his career, Roland was an investment banker with JP Morgan & Co. in New York.
Roland graduated from Princeton University with high honors and earned an MBA from Harvard Business School.
