The Most Rev. Michael Curry, Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church

The Most Rev. Michael Curry discusses becoming the first African-American Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church and why he prioritizes speaking out on issues of social justice, including race relations and marriage equality. 

On his path to the ministry: “[In college,] I took a course [where] I actually got to read some of Dr. [Martin Luther] King [Jr.]'s writings…. And I started to realize that maybe with this calling as an ordained minister – as a religious figure and religious leader – you could actually have an impact that could impact lives and societies in some deeper ways. And again, all of a sudden that became a live possibility. And the next thing I knew I was caught up in it and the rest is history.”

On speaking out on LGBT rights and marriage equality: “No matter your sexual orientation or your sexuality or your gender identity or your race or your politics, everybody is made in the image of God and we believe this is love's way. It’s that same love for our brothers and sisters who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered.”
