A Message Regarding the Tragic Events of September 11, 2001

We are all saddened by the horrible destruction and loss of life resulting from the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11. Our thoughts and prayers are with those many people and organizations who are suffering from this terrible tragedy.

At Goldman Sachs, we share the strong determination of the entire securities industry to show solidarity in the face of terrorism. We are sending the clearest possible message that terrorism will not close free markets.

The people of Goldman Sachs are reaching out to families, friends and colleagues who are dealing with grief and as a firm we have offered our assistance to others in the industry who have been more severely impacted than we by this tragedy. Our people and firm are assisting the ongoing recovery and humanitarian efforts through donations of blood and volunteer work. Additionally, Goldman Sachs people are pledging at least $10 million in aid to the families of the various victims of this tragedy.

The security and safety of our people remains paramount to us. We encourage our people to use the GS INFORM network to get updates on business operations, and to access a Goldman Sachs hotline where you can find information about our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and other important Goldman Sachs people-related services.
