Goldman Sachs to Reorganize Its Securities Business in Japan

Tokyo, August 1, 2006 – Goldman Sachs (Japan) Ltd. announced today that it will conduct its securities business in Japan through Goldman Sachs Japan Co., Ltd. (“GSJCL”), a newly incorporated Japanese company (kabushiki kaisha). Goldman Sachs (Japan) Ltd. will transfer all its business to GSJCL on October 1, 2006, and the new company will begin operating on the same day.
