First Class of Utah Small Business Owners Graduate From Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses

33 Business Owners Working to Grow, Create Jobs

On May 22, 2013, 33 Utah small business owners graduated from the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses initiative, which aims to help create jobs and economic growth by providing small businesses in the area with practical business education, business support services and access to capital.

The business owners who graduated represent a wide variety of industries including manufacturing, transportation, design and contracting. They participated in over 100 hours of curriculum delivered across eleven sessions at Salt Lake Community College, studying a business and management curriculum designed by Babson College and customized by Salt Lake Community College faculty. The curriculum covered accounting, human resources, negotiation and marketing, among other topics. The program also included one-on-one business advising, accounting workshops and advice from Goldman Sachs professionals.

Goldman Sachs launched 10,000 Small Businesses in Salt Lake City in July 2012 in partnership with the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and committed $15 million for small business loans, business education and grants for supporting community partners.

Mountain West Small Business Finance is the capital provider for the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses initiative in Utah. Additional Utah partners involved in the program include the Pete Suazo Business Center, the Salt Lake Chamber, the Salt Lake Small Business Development Center, the Utah Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Utah Small Business Development Centers Network. These partners help with the recruitment of small business owners and entrepreneurs in Utah and assist in providing technical assistance and business support services.
