10,000 Women graduate awarded Goldman Sachs and Fortune Global Women Leaders Award

Each year, The Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit convenes a community of preeminent women in business, along with select leaders in government, philanthropy, education, sports, and the arts for inspiring conversations. Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women was proud to once again partner with Fortune on this year’s Summit, which was inspired by the theme “Emerging Stronger.” The Summit took place from October 11-13 in Washington, D.C.

As part of Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women’s partnership with the Summit, each year a graduate of the 10,000 Women program is awarded the highly prestigious Goldman Sachs and Fortune Global Women Leaders Award.

This year’s winning 10,000 Women entrepreneur is Michele Maignan from Haiti, for her work empowering young women who are living with HIV and AIDS to rise above their circumstances.  Michele runs Fondation Esther Boucicault Stanislas, a local NGO and Belle Creole, which she founded to empower women though capacity building, micro loans, training and mentorship.

Nine out of 10 graduates from the 10,000 Women program go on to help other women, and Michele’s story is an incredible example of the power of paying it forward. Through her “EmpowHER” initiative, Michele targets the untapped potential for girls to be developed further to increase advocacy, multiplying the positive impact of the foundation’s work.
