In this episode of Talks at GS, psychologist Susan David, Johnson & Johnson CEO Alex Gorsky, and Dr. Mark McClellan discuss the healthcare response to COVID-19 and how to protect, educate and empower your workforce.

Dr. David on resilience during challenging times: “No business is resilient without individual leaders and employees who are resilient. And so emotional agility is this critical set of skills that help us to deal with the world as it is. Not as we wish to be, but as it is right now so that we can create the change that we need.”

Gorsky on the path to a vaccine for COVID-19: “A vaccine will need to be used with therapeutics, with medicines. It will need to be used with protocols. There's still so much work that needs to be done, but I'm incredibly proud of the progress that we're making and we are 190% committed to doing everything we can to make that possible.”

Dr. McCellan on keys for a safe reopening for businesses: “I think the main things to keep in mind are having some distancing steps set up in your business both to reduce the likelihood of potential transmission between people who work at the company as well as with customers and there are contactless ways to do that, recommendations about spacing tables or aisles or things like that.”

This episode was filmed as part of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Voices Virtual Capitol Hill Week on June 10, 2020.
