In this episode of Talks at GS, filmed at Goldman Sachs’ Builders + Innovators Summit, Peloton CEO John Foley discusses growing the interactive fitness platform, why a key decision for growth was going direct-to-consumer, and building a community through the company.
On the acceleration of at-home fitness: “With respect to COVID, it is helping at home fitness there’s no question, but we firmly believe… it is an acceleration of the inevitable.”
On the decision to go direct-to-consumer: “We just wanted to build a big business and wanted to get our products in people’s homes… When we started the company, it wasn’t clear what’s the better model. We didn’t really have a read… Opening our own retail stores, doing our own television spots, doing digital ads. It’s allowing us to create a very special D2C brand.”
