Statement from Lloyd Blankfein, Chairman and CEO of Goldman Sachs, on the Appointment of Dina Habib Powell to the White House

President-Elect Donald Trump announced today his intention to appoint Dina Habib Powell as Assistant to the President and Senior Counselor for Economic Initiatives. In this role, Ms. Powell will focus on entrepreneurship, small business growth and the global economic empowerment of women.

Blankfein, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Goldman Sachs. “We will miss her at Goldman Sachs, but know the country will benefit greatly from her deep commitment to creating opportunity and economic growth in communities throughout the United States.”

At Goldman Sachs, Dina served as global head of Impact Investing, including the Goldman Sachs Foundation, Goldman Sachs Gives and the Urban Investment Group. As president of the Goldman Sachs Foundation, Dina oversaw two major initiatives, 10,000 Women and 10,000 Small Businesses, and led the firm’s employee engagement platform.

In addition to her role as global head of Impact Investing, Dina oversaw the Environmental Markets Group, which creates market-based opportunities and solutions to drive sustainable economic development and environmental progress. 

Dina joined Goldman Sachs as a Managing Director in 2007. She was named Partner in 2010 and served as a member of the Partnership Committee.

Dina had a longstanding career in government before joining Goldman Sachs, having served as Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs, Deputy Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, and Assistant to the President for Presidential Personnel in the White House.
