NEW YORK, December 19, 2017 – The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (NYSE: GS) today announced the appointment of Karen Patton Seymour as a partner and co-general counsel of the firm. With Greg Palm, Ms. Seymour will advise Goldman Sachs beginning in January 2018 and have responsibility for all legal matters affecting the firm’s operations worldwide. She will be based in New York and join the Management Committee.
Ms. Seymour joins Goldman Sachs from Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, where she was a partner and a member of the Management Committee, specializing in commercial litigation, regulatory enforcement and internal investigations. She brings a wealth of experience to the firm from her past work involving a wide range of complex legal and regulatory matters. Previously, Ms. Seymour served as co-managing partner of Sullivan & Cromwell’s Litigation Group.
Prior to joining Sullivan & Cromwell, Ms. Seymour held several roles at the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, including as chief of the Criminal Division, where she oversaw all criminal investigations and prosecutions for the district, and before that as chief of the General Crimes Unit.

Ms. Seymour supports several professional and community organizations, including as a member of the Board of the Vera Institute of Justice and as a member of the American Law Institute. She earned a BA and BS, magna cum laude, from Southern Methodist University, and received a JD from The University of Texas School of Law and an LLM from the University of London.
