Goldman Sachs Talks

Jitse Groen, CEO of Just Eat Takeaway.com

In this episode of Talks at GS, Jitse Groen, CEO of Just Eat Takeaway.com, discusses how he grew his business from a start-up in Holland to one of the largest food delivery companies outside of China, the future of the food-technology industry and his advice to other entrepreneurs.

On the future of the food-tech industry: “We expect the sector to change dramatically. In a couple of years, we don’t believe there will be many phone orders anymore, but there’s still a lot of that now. So that will change. There’s a dramatic shift in the amount of orders that people place, because the coverage is increasing. So the number of moments where people use your service increases, and I think it’s important for us to figure out a way to further increase those moments and to decrease the cost for them.”

On advice for entrepreneurs: “The problem is, a lot of people have a good idea, then they figure out it’s difficult and they stop. And the issue is, and I see it myself, it took us seven years to become something that was similar to a successful company. So in the end, unfortunately, running a business is really, really hard work for a really, really long time. In the end, it’s about hard work, dedication and focus.”
